Kellogg’s Bakery Expansion
The following was a Construction Estimating and Planning team project completed at NC State.
Objective: Kellogg’s Bakery of Cary, NC wishes to expand it’s backery to increase it’s output of Cheez-Its. This project is an actual occuring project being designed and built by Raleigh engineering firm Brasfield & Gorie. Based on the plans they have provided, estimate and plan the construction phase of the project. Include all materials in take-offs that can be found in RS Means 2007.
Include all equipment, maintenance and fuel costs, labor costs, office supplies, and other project overhead costs. Create a company and establish a company overhead to be added to the project estimate. Schedule the project using Primavera. Utilize quotes from subcontractors as needed, and provide a final report and presentation detailing your final estimate, payment plan, and schedule for the project.
Solution: In order to facilitate better communication and document upkeep, we created a website and used a Google-Docs Account for our company Monumental Construction LLC. Our bid for the project (including profits) came out to be $1,140,038.74, with a construction duration of 60 days including 5 days of unforseen weather conditions.
Compression analysis revealed a duration savings that may or may not be worth the added costs, pending discussion with Kelloggs. Our findings can be found in the following documents:
